WCHA Defensive Player of the Week
Riitta Schaublin, Sr., G, University of Minnesota Duluth
Jan. 23, 2007 - Riitta Schaublin, a veteran goaltender at the University of Minnesota Duluth, is the WCHA Defensive Player of the Week for Jan. 23-29.
A senior from Basel, Switzerland, Schaublin made 26 saves in shutting out Bemidji State, 5-0, in the conference series opener last Saturday (Jan. 20) and then stopped 22 of 23 opponent shots in a 3-1 victory last Sunday (Jan. 21) to complete the sweep against the host Beavers.
Schaublin, a Patty Kazmaier Award finalist last season, moved her record to 9-3-2 this season while helping Minnesota Duluth move into second place and extend its unbeaten streak to seven games.
