Kim Martin, Iya Gavrilova Honored With Player of the Week Awards!

WCHA Defensive Player of the Week
Kim Martin, So., G, Minnesota Duluth

Kim Martin, a sophomore goaltender from Stockholm, Sweden, made 63 saves in No. 3-ranked Minnesota Duluth's two-game WCHA road sweep over No. 4-ranked Wisconsin in Madison on Nov. 30-Dec. 1.

Martin backstopped the Bulldogs to a 3-1 victory last Friday afternoon, despite 18 minutes worth of UMD penalties, and helped the Badgers go 0-for-5 on their power-play. Martin's brilliant play last Saturday earned her a ninth win on the season, and she picked up her second game in a row with 30 or more saves, and has made 30 saves in four of her last six starts.

Others nominated this week were: Emily Brookshawk, G, Bemidji State; Holly Snyder, D, Minnesota State; and Rachael Drazen, D, Minnesota.

WCHA Rookie of the Week
Iya Gavrilova, Fr., F, Minnesota Duluth

Iya Gavrilova, a freshman forward from Krasnoyarsk, Russia, continued a four-game scoring streak in a big way by netting three goals to help the No. 3 Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs sweep No. 4 Wisconsin on the road.

She scored the game-winning goal last Friday (Nov. 30) in UMD's 3-1 victory over the Badgers. Gavrilova then scored back-to-back goals in last Saturday's matinee just :45 seconds apart, including the equalizing tally with :25 seconds left in regulation to force overtime. Gavrilova ended the overtime :15 seconds after it began when she scored her second game-winning goal in two days.

Others nominated this week were: Lisa Edman, F, Minnesota State; and Jenny Lura, G, Minnesota.
