WCHA Offensive Player of the Week
Saara Tuominen, So., F, Minnesota Duluth
Saara Tuominen, a sophomore forward from Ylojarvi, Finland, scored two goals and two assists in the University of Minnesota Duluth's weekend (Dec. 8-9) sweep of WCHA-rival Ohio State.
She scored one goal and had an assist in last Saturday's 7-2 win, and then scored one goal last Sunday in the Bulldogs' 4-0 victory. Tuominen currently leads UMD in scoring with 27 points (10g, 17a), which ranks her tenth nationally and first in the WCHA.
Others nominated this week were: Gigi Marvin, F, Minnesota; Erica Lawler, F, Wisconsin; Felicia Nelson, F, St. Cloud State; Melissa Jaques, F, North Dakota; and Kala Buganski, F, Minnesota State.
WCHA Defensive Player of the Week
Heidi Pelttari, So., D, Minnesota Duluth
Heidi Pelttari, a sophomore defenseman, recorded four points in the University of Minnesota Duluth's sweep over Ohio State over the Dec. 8-9 weekend.
The product of Tampere, Finland scored back-to-back goals for the Bulldogs last Saturday and added an assist in UMD's 7-2 series-opening triumph, while dishing out another assist in the Bulldogs' 4-0 blanking of the Buckeyes last Sunday. The defenseman was also +5 in the series, and leads all UMD blueliners in scoring this season with 12 points (3g, 9a).
