Gophers beat Bulldogs 3-0

Today's game.... lacked a lot of positives for UMD.. they tried to make too many pretty passes rather than put shots on Gopher goaltender Kim Hanlon. In the first couple minutes Hanlon looked a little shaky, but UMD didn't capitalize and only got 4 shots to her in the whole first period.

Referee Chris Perrault called a strange 'elbowing' penalty on Erin Olson when she dumped the puck into the Gopher zone and was body checked but held her ground as the much bigger player, which knocked down the body checker.. which led to a Gopher goal opening minute of the second period and pretty much let the steam out of the Bulldogs.

They had a few chances but seemed way to reluctant to shoot the puck today.. the powerplays UMD had were miserable, and reminded me of the series three weeks ago when Minnesota scored 3 short handed goals in that series. The Gophers scored 2 of their 3 goals on low five-hole shots and it seemed like that was their goal on the day, to keep the puck low, on the ice.

While going into the series I didn't expect a UMD sweep, they could have at least come out for Sundays game with more effort and shot the puck.

Karine Demeuele didn't play in today's game, for whatever reason, hopefully just an illness. Her presence on the ice could only have helped a lackluster performance.
