Dogs Finish the SWEEP of North Dakota

Today's game was a LOT better than yesterday, as far as the chippiness and ugly play goes. UMD won 5-0 and finished the weekend strong, AND got the "4th liners" into the game in the 3rd period.

After this weekend:

Jessica Koizumi got on the board with her first 2 goals of the season and now has 2 goals 6 assists on the season to lead the team in overall points.

Myriam Trepanier only scored 4 points (2g+2a) last season and already has 5 points with 2 goals 3 assists.

Saara Tuominen after 3 points last weekend, only had 1 assist this weekend but that's still 4 points on the season.

Noemie Marin has been burying the puck to start this season. She's already got 7 points on 6 goals and 1 assist.

Jamie Rasmussen was huge on defense on the weekend with 4 Sunday assists. Her family in the stands was also huge so to speak. Sunday though one of them mentioned one of the DECC ushers told them they had to leave their shirts down instead of displaying their UMD letters, or they'd be excused from the game. She along with Elin Holmlov and Trepanier on the powerplay are what UMD has been missing.

So far this season UMD's powerplay is 8 of 23, not counting the 3 of 7 against the Whitecaps. If this 35% powerplay can mantain through the season, this will be a much better end of the season result.

The penalty kill has only given up 1 goal on 33 for a 97% kill rate. This weekened against North Dakota the puck was in the Sioux side of the ice on many of those penalty kills. Hopefully against the league's better teams, they stay out of the box more.

A while back I mentioned an expectation of 4 shutouts in a row by UMD goaltenders. Well, now we've seen 2 of the 4 in the back to back shutouts of NoDak. Bring on BSU.
